RIC I² 155

Obverse

Heads of Agrippa (left) and Augustus (right) back to back, Agrippa wearing combined rostral crown and laurel wreath and Augustus is bare-headed

Reverse

Crocodile chained to palm-shoot with tip right; above palm-tip left a wreath with long ties

Historical Note

The chained crocodile marks the conquest of Egypt in 30 BC — one of the defining events of Augustus's rise to sole power. Struck at Nemausus (Nîmes) for veteran colonists. This variant, with the wreath tie placement slightly different from related types, represents one of the later issues in the series.
