Head of Augustus, oak-wreathed, right
Reverse
Head of Agrippa, right, with combined mural and rostral crown
Historical Note
Agrippa's combined mural crown (for being first over an enemy wall) and rostral crown (for naval victory) was a unique honour in Roman history — no other individual held both. It acknowledged his decisive role at Naulochus and Actium. The combined crown became his standard portrait attribute, distinguishing him from all other Roman commanders on coinage and in art.
