Double triumphal arch on viaduct, Augustus in quadriga being crowned by Victory
Historical Note
A double arch on a viaduct, with Augustus in a quadriga crowned by Victory, is among the most elaborate triumphal arch types of the reign. The double arch may represent the arch voted to Augustus after the recovery of the Parthian standards in 20 BC — ancient sources describe a 'fornix' (arch) with a statue of Augustus in a quadriga being crowned by Victory.
