Victory standing right on globe, holding wreath in right hand and palm in left

Historical Note

Victory standing on a globe combines two claims: military victory (wreath and palm) and world sovereignty (the globe underfoot). Post-Actium Augustan coin types regularly show Victory on a globe to assert that Rome — under Augustus — now ruled the entire world. The palm was the Roman symbol of triumph; the wreath was placed on the victor's brow.
