Quinarius
Silver (argentum) · ~1.6g · ~90% pure
211 BC – AD 300
Half the value of a denarius and half its weight, the quinarius was struck intermittently throughout Roman history. Never a workhorse denomination, it filled gaps when smaller silver payments were needed. Republican quinarii carry a V mark (five asses at the original rate). Imperial quinarii are scarce and sought after by collectors for their small, gem-like format.
