Obverse
Head of Octavian, bare, right
Reverse
Victory in biga, right, right hand holding wreath, left hand holding reins and palm
Historical Note
Victory driving a biga (two-horse chariot) was a well-established Greek and Roman numismatic motif. On Augustan coins it typically refers to the multiple triumphs celebrated by Augustus: the triple triumph of 29 BC over Illyricum, Egypt, and the East. The wreath and palm confirm the triumphal context.
