Claudius II Gothicus (AD 268 to 270) earned his epithet by defeating the Goths at the Battle of Naissus. He died of plague after just two years. His posthumous 'DIVO CLAVDIO' coins, struck by Constantine I decades later for propaganda purposes, are among the most common of all Roman coins.
