Apollo, laureate, standing left, in long robes, on platform between two anchors, holding patera and lyre
Historical Note
Apollo standing on a platform between two anchors is an unusual naval composition — likely connecting the victory at Actium (fought near Apollo's sanctuary) with his divine patronage. The patera (libation bowl) and lyre combine his priestly and musical roles. The anchors are a direct reference to the naval battle, and to Augustus's dedication of captured ships to Apollo at Actium.
