Historical Note

The tiara, quiver, and bow-case are the insignia of Armenian and Parthian royalty. This symbolic composition marks the eastern settlements of 20 BC — the recovery of Parthian standards and the installation of a client king in Armenia — without depicting a specific figure, instead presenting the symbols of eastern submission to Rome.
