501 coin types catalogued

Caracalla (AD 198 to 217) introduced the antoninianus (double denarius) around AD 215, a coin that would eventually replace the denarius entirely. He is also known for extending Roman citizenship to all free inhabitants of the empire. His coins show a distinctive fierce expression, particularly on his later issues.
