Leo I (AD 457 to 474) was the first eastern emperor crowned by the Patriarch of Constantinople, establishing an important precedent. He attempted to recapture North Africa from the Vandals in a catastrophic expedition. His coins, particularly gold solidi, are relatively common for the period.
